Hit The Bottle, Ladies: How-To Make The Perfect Martini!

/ Friday, November 9, 2012

Happy Friday! For many here in NYC, this was our first week back in action after Sandy. How'd you fare? I was finally able to start my new job and had a super lovely first full week as an editor at Good Housekeeping test kitchens. That said, I am looking forward to this weekend (we have some exciting things going on)! And whether you've had a stressful work week and/or are still dealing with a crazy commute, flooded basement or wrecked car, you probably want a drink, too. Am I right? Well here's my go-to: a classic martini. Mmm! A clean gin martini with a twist, there's nothing better. Cheers to you, my lovely friends! See you back here on Monday.

MAKES: 1 drink

3 ounces gin
1 ounce dry vermouth
1 to 2 dashes orange bitters
Lemon twist, for garnish

Stir the gin, vermouth and bitters together in a cocktail shaker or large glass with ice for 30 seconds; strain into a chilled martini glass. Rub the rim of the glass with the lemon twist, then add to the drink.

Note: My favorite brand of gin is Hendricks, I think it makes the best martini ever!
