I'm craving a smidge more old-school charm in my life. Maybe it has something to do with Pippa Lord's write up on BabyCakes NYC creator, Erin McKenna. Whatever the reason, this cocktail feels like a good place to start...
Rumor has it my gorgeous grandmother used to put out onion dip and a tray of gimlets when the gals came over to play cards—take me there! I need to ask her about the details. For now, here's a recipe for my gin gimlet. I make my own lime simple syrup to sweeten 'em up (because, if you're like me, you probably keep forgetting to pick up Rose's).
GIN GIMLET
MAKES: 1 drink
3 ounces gin
1 ounce fresh lime juice
¼ to ½ ounce plain or lime-flavored simple syrup
Lime wedge or twist, for garnish
Shake the gin, lime juice and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a martini glass or an ice-filled lowball glass. Garnish with lime.
Oh! Boyfriend says he prefers to stir a squeeze of lime juice into a proper martini. So that's something to think about if you want a stiffer drink. It is Friday...Cheers!
Now that looks like a summer Friday!
ReplyDeleteNanny will be very proud.
Hopefully these gimlets are up to her standards, Mama :)
