Cajun Grouper Sandwich

One thing I cannot leave Florida without is a taste of the local grouper. On a sandwich, blackened over salad or served on its own, grouper is one of my favorite fishes to eat.

If you're not a fan of fish, grouper is a great place to start. It's flaky white flesh lacks the fishy taste you might get with a salmon or snapper. It's like the chicken cutlet of the ocean but soo much more tasty. I think part of its appeal is that you can't get it at home, like snow crab.

Frenchy's Rockaway Grill on Clearwater Beach has one of the best grouper sandwiches I've ever had. There are a few options to choose from, but I go for the Cajun Grouper Sandwich. A blackened group fillet is topped with chopped lettuce, tomato and a parmesan tarter sauce on an onion roll. Homemade potato chips come as a side. Super yummy. Very crunchy.

Frenchy's has a honky-tonk tropical feel that you'd expect to find in the Bahamas, or at least the Florida Keys. Between the crowds of sunburnt drunkards and reggae music, Frenchy's is a vacation all of its own. If you have the patience to wait for a table, you might just find your little slice of paradise. While you're there, get the grouper sandwich. You wont regret it. Enjoy!
